Democracy for Tennessee has endorsed four candidates in the Aug. 7 school board election.
DFT is supporting Mark North in District 3, Gracie Porter in District 5, Ed Kindall in District 7 and Lee Limbird in District 9.
“Schools are one of the most important parts of our society,” said Jim Grinstead, DFT chairman, “and we need leaders who are dedicated to providing an excellent education to every child in our community. We believe these candidates will put the needs of our children first.”
In making its announcement, DFT took note of the fact that Nashville’s schools are facing difficult challenges and that decisions facing the board, including the choice of a new director and how to best bring schools out of state corrective action, will affect the district for years to come.
“Too few children are graduating from our schools. Too few children are acquiring the skills and knowledge they will need to have successful lives. We need a school board that will take its responsibility to the community seriously and demand nothing less than the best education possible for all children,” Grinstead said.
Democracy for Tennessee is the state chapter of Democracy for America, a non-partisan organization that supports progressive candidates dedicated to good government. It has more than 4,000 members statewide and more than 1,100 in the Nashville area.
