Headline of press release:
Alexander Votes to Keep Senate Working on High Gas Prices
Substance of press release:
Alexander voted against a motion to proceed to debate on the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) bill (S. 3186).
Are you kidding me?! We’re not that stupid! We know what “voted against a motion to proceed” means! It’s a vote to filibuster!
Filibusters do not keep the Senate working. They block the Senate from working.
And get this – in the very same sentence Sen. Alexander is lying to you about filibusters, he’s also bragging about blocking assistance to low-income families who can’t afford to heat their homes this winter. Very nice, Senator.
Of course, the Senator has his reasons. Alexander claims the filibuster will force the Senate to keep working on gas prices (it’s right there in the title of the press release). Yeah, that turns out to be a lie too, because the Senate still moved right along to other things anyway.
So in the end Senator Alexander accomplished two things: not working on gas prices and not helping poor people heat their homes.
No, wait, that’s zero things. Good job!
