The unemployment rate jumped from 5.0% to 5.5% in a single freakin’ month.
According to the federal government, the number of unemployed people grew by 861,000 last month alone. That puts the total number of unemployed at 8.5 million, compared to 6.9 million at this time last year.
That’s an increase of 1.4 million – or a 20% jump in twelve months!
Are there any Republicans out there still willing to believe this economic mess is all a media creation and it would all just magically go away if we were to bury our heads in the sand and ignore it?
Even if our economic stimulus checks meet the wildest expectations of the Bush Administration (and all evidence is they won’t do much more than squat), the unemployment rate is expected to hit 6.0% before we finally get a competent administration back in the White House.
