Grab Your Checkbook: Ever wanted to meet the fiery former prosecutor turned US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)? Whitehouse booted an incumbent in 2006 and now enjoys raking Bush Administration officials across the coals in Congressional testimony. He’s coming to town raise money for the DSCC, which aims to flip anywhere from 4-7 Senate seats from Red to Blue this November. Tennessee ain’t on the target list, but they’d love our money anyway. The DSCC is kicking ass this year so it’s a good cause to spend on. Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) will be there too.
New Law: Lawyers filing malpractice suits will have to get medical experts to verify the validity of the claim before the case can go forward, according to a new state law headed to the governor’s desk. Will it cut down on frivolous lawsuits or will there just be a cottage industry of “medical experts” who get thousands of dollars to rubber stamp lawsuits they’ve never read?
Blame Bush: Governor Bredesen may have to slash another $400 to $500 million from next year’s budget because of our ongoing economic disaster.
Also Bush’s Fault: Metro killed a program to send 1,100 poor kids to summer camp for free, thanks to the economic disaster.
