Lamar Alexander Votes To Deny Justice to Tennessee Workers
Under US law, a woman denied a proper raise or promotion because of her sex has 180 days to file a complaint. What happens if she doesn’t discover the discrimination within 180 days? Tough luck, says the US Supreme Court. So Democrats in Congress set out to correct this problem by changing the law.
Today, Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker voted to filibuster any change in the law, screwing over women across Tennessee and the country.
Democrats needed 60 votes in the Senate to move forward. They got 56. Only four Republicans voted with the Democrats: the ones from Minnesota, Maine, Oregon, and New Hampshire. Guess which four Senators are the most likely to get booted from office in November by Democrats? Not a coincidence.
Alexander and Corker both feel safe in their seats, so they had the freedom to vote party line over common sense. They should both be ashamed.
Sen. John McCain, by the way, was too chicken to show up and vote. (Obama and Clinton voted correctly.)
