Rob Briley has taken himself out of the running for the House seat in the 52nd district. It was the right choice to make.
Briley has been a Progressive voice in the legislature, but his very public fight with the demons that haunt him has compromised his effectiveness. A campaign would only lead to a rehashing of those troubles at the expense of the issues that are important to the district's residents.
Briley needs to take some time away from the public eye to deal with his personal life and, once those issues have been resolved, decide where to apply his talents.
While many of our Progressive colleagues have been quick to write Rob Briley's obituary, we believe it is wrong to so quickly discount what he has to offer. Others have faced the same challenges as Rob Briley and have reclaimed their lives. We believe Briley deserves the same opportunity.
If successful, Rob Briley has much to contribute to the Progressive cause and he should be welcomed back.
Until that time, we wish Rob the strength and courage he will need to successfully manage his life one day at a time.

So much promise. I wish him well.
