Progressive Donna Edwards won a stunning victory over incumbent Albert Wynn with 60 percent of the vote in a closely-watched race for the U.S. House in Maryland. Edwards was a favorite of Progressives because of her stand on the issues and because Wynn had strayed so far from Democratic values.
Edwards came within three points of beating Wynn in a previous election, giving Progressives hope that she could close the deal in another contest. Edwards told voters that she best represented the kind of change presidential candidate Barack Obama has been preaching, and Wynn argued he had proved himself a pragmatic bipartisan worker, like Obama. Wynn had held the 4th district post for 15 years.
