A state legislator in Ohio has introduced a bill seeking to make English the state's official language.
Rep. Bob Mecklenborg, who was appointed to the Ohio House in October, is being challenged in the March 4 primary election by Dick Hammersmith, a conservative political consultant.
The bill, which has the support of House Speaker Jon Husted, would ensure that in order for Ohio's actions and laws to be considered authoritative and legal, they must be communicated in English, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
A similar bill introduced in the last session died without a vote.
This is another attempt by neo-conservatives to distract voters from important issues such as health care and education and focus them on non-issues of no value. Nashville leaders voted against the issue previously, but it continues to resurface whenever a neo-conservative candidate wants to scare voters into supporting them.
Hopefully the Ohio legislature will once again allow this to die without letting it see the light of day.
