Analysis of Michigan:
Romney
Finally a victory! And absolutely was a must win. Now, Romney has to decide if he makes a stand in South Carolina or Florida. If he’s smart, he goes straight to Florida. That nice, shiny win in Michigan gives him enough respectability to survive a defeat in South Carolina, which already has three candidates (Huckabee, Thompson, and McCain) pouring every penny into it. Mitt’s smart: he’s already setting up low expectations for SC, claiming to be polling 4th there – which is a lie. He’s actually in third, which is exactly where he’ll finish, and he wants to be able to call that a minor victory. He’s still my bet to get the nomination.
McCain
I firmly believe that if McCain had won Michigan, he would have swept South Carolina and Florida as well, giving him an almost certain victory for the nomination. Now it remains to be seen if the McCain bandwagon hit a speed bump or a brick wall. Bet on brick wall. Without the momentum of consecutive victories, McCain is back to leading a cult of personality rather than a national movement. I think of him as the GOP’s John Edwards: too many supporters to quit, not enough to win anything.
Huckabee
Huckabee was smart to sit quietly on the sidelines in South Carolina while Romney and McCain duked it out in Michigan. He knew one of his opponents would leave Michigan so damaged that only the other one mattered. Now all he has to do is beat Romney in South Carolina, and he’ll be king of the hill again… at least until Florida.
Paul
Paul’s 4th place finish is only relevant because he beat…
Thompson
4%?? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Oh well, that’s still 4x better than you did in New Hamsphire!
- Rick Lewis
Do any of them have any money left? Besides The Rominator of course.
